That ugly 3 letter word we are all guilty of:

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

Get that? Not only are we LIARS when we say we have no sin, but we are also accusing God of lying as well, because He says:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God Romans 3:23

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; Romans 3:10

If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:10

We like to categorize sin by degrees. We think because we haven’t done the “biggies”, like murder, stealing or adultery then we are okay. No big deal.

Well, let’s take a look at another passage of Scripture:

These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19

What is that in verse 17? A proud look, a lying tongue?

Even one little haughty expression, one moment of self-pride and one little “white” lie….just one time doing either earns our place in eternal hell fire. God makes no distinction between a moment of haughty pride and hands that shed innocent blood.

Praise be to God He provided a Way to save us from ourselves!

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Remember, John was speaking to believers when he wrote this epistle. So dear Christian friend, if you have found yourself feeling rather self-righteous lately, confess.
